Scouting report
Kanan Petty is a talented young quarterback who displays a strong combination of football intelligence, field awareness, and natural athletic ability. He does a very good job of seeing the field, recognizing what is developing in front of him, and making decisions with confidence. His ability to process the game stands out for a player his age, and he shows the poise to keep his eyes downfield while allowing routes to develop. As he continues to gain experience, his understanding of defensive coverages and overall command of the offense should continue to become an even greater strength. As a passer, Petty possesses a strong arm with the ability to make throws to multiple areas of the field. He can generate good velocity while also showing the ability to deliver the football with accuracy and touch when needed. His athleticism adds another dimension to his game. Petty has excellent feet, moves well inside and outside of the pocket, and has the mobility to extend plays when protection breaks down. He is not simply a quarterback who can run—he uses his feet to create additional opportunities in the passing game while also being a legitimate threat with the football in his hands. Overall, Petty is a well-rounded quarterback prospect with a very promising foundation. His intelligence, arm strength, vision, footwork, and overall athleticism give him many of the tools you want to see developing in a young quarterback. The next several years will be important as he continues refining his mechanics, developing his timing and anticipation, and gaining experience reading more advanced defenses. With continued development and quality competition, Petty has the physical and mental attributes to continue progressing into a high-level quarterback prospect in the Class of 2031.
